We are a small collective creating opportunities for free or compensated education. The Free Skool is democratically run and open to anyone who wishes to share and receive knowledge of all types. We attempt to use anarchist based pedagogies and practices in the running and content of our programs.
The Free Skool strongly believes that anyone can be a teacher or a learner. Education is a way for us to heal ourselves, connect with others and grow strong communities based on our perspectives and cultural needs. Many of us are still reeling from the enduring pain that the hierarchy and domination of mainstream education has left on our bodies, minds and spirits. Many of us are hurting from the classist, racist and sexist barriers that make access to quality education inaccessible. The Free Skool aims to create learning experiences that are in opposition to mainstream conceptions of education. Our intention is to make learning possible without hierarchies, without fees, and compensated when possible. We attempt to bring learning and teaching back to the hands of all community members so we can share rich collective knowledge with one another.
Our facilitator’s do not have professional or expert knowledge. They are community members who want to share ideas and learn from one another. We invite anyone to join us and bring their background, life experiences and expertise to our discussions.
