Structure

The Free Skool is run democratically by a small collective. The collective’s role is to create a way to organize and promote classes. Community members elect themselves to create content and run different learning experiences. Everyone is welcome to create courses and attend classes!

While still in its early stages, we hope to develop 5 different types of courses for the Free Skool.

– Curriculas: Sessions that are ongoing and meet several times. Content follows a consistent theme or direction.

– Skill share: Workshops that focus on developing confidence in a specific skill. This could range from cooking a special recipe, fixing up a house, organizing a protest or singing a song. Any skill you have is worth sharing!

– Lessons: One off discussions, readings or lectures on a specific topic.

– Youth: Classes geared specifically for youth in our community to facilitate and participate in.

– Recess: Let’s learn and play games together! Sharing knowledge with one another can also involve hanging out outside, making art together or kicking around a soccer ball. Creating experiences for having fun and being creative together.

Throughout the development of the Black and Red Free Skool we hope to offer discussions on theories of education and workshops sharing practical skills for facilitating a class. We hope these discussions and workshops will help everyone become a confident facilitator or learner at the Free Skool.
